'Serious' Meetings - on topics of concern or interest to Older People in Ryedale.

We aim to keep our members informed about and up to date with public services which may affect them.

To this end we hold regular meetings at which we invite officers and elected members involved in providing such services to come and give account of themselves and to stand up to our members' questions.

We have recently held meetings on topics such as :

  • Social care
  • Highways and transport
  • Changes to the NHS
  • Sentencing - the criminal justice board
  • Parliament - how it works
  • Child protection
  • Drugs - what you should know

We are keen to invite our local elected representatives and champions, including our MP to our 'Serious' meetings.

If there is a topic you would like the Forum to cover please let us know and we'll try to make arrangements.

Forum Footsteppers Walks from November, 2017 to April, 2018
(Printable : 3 pages, 682 Kb)

We offer two types of walk :

  • Easy walks which are around an hour long, at your own pace with a leader and a back marker so that no-one gets left behind
  • Moderate walks around two hours with a leader and back marker

All members are welcome to join any of our walks. You don't need to book in advance but new members are advised to contact the walk leader prior to going on their first walk. Telephone numbers are supplied.

There is no charge for these walks but sometimes the group may go for light refreshments afterwards - tea, coffee and maybe a cake! So you might like to bring a little money with you.

The leaders of some of the moderate walks suggest bringing a packed lunch. This is always made clear in advance.

Although all our walks are on pavements or public footpaths it is advisable to wear suitable footwear such as strong shoes or boots as the way can sometimes be muddy or uneven.

Why not join us for some fresh air and a gentle stroll in a friendly atmosphere.

Ideally suited to the inactive who want to become more active.

Gentle Exercise/Keep Fit Classes

There are two levels of Gentle Exercise/Keep Fit class.

On Mondays the class is for those who haven't done any significant exercise for a while so it really is gentle.

The Wednesday group is for those more experienced. It meets weekly and enjoys instructed exercise, mostly to music.

If you would like to know more please contact us.

This is Yoga specially targeted at older people.

You don't need any special equipment but as it involves lying on the floor you should bring a mat or blanket for your comfort and wear comfortable clothing.

If you would like to know details of time, place and cost then please contact us.

Indoor Bowling

We are always looking to extend our healthy activities.

We recently organised taster sessions for our members at the Ryedale Indoor Bowls Club. As a result a number of our members joined the Club and now take part in the local Bowling leagues.

If there is sufficient interest we will try to organize more of these introductions to Indoor Bowling.

Please contact us if this is of interest to you.
